How Amica Taunton sees itself
Who are you as a community?
Experience premium senior living at Amica Taunton, a new retirement residence in north Whitby that opened in February 2024. Amica Taunton offers a full continuum of care from bungalow-style townhome condos, to Independent Living, Assisted Living, and secure Memory Care floors. We have an onsite nurse 24/7 and a doctor visits weekly. Residents choose when to dine between 7am-7pm and enjoy special menus created by our Red Seal Chef. Onsite gastropub, The Gibson, also open to the public.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?
Only at AMICA Taunton can you find Complex Care such as 2 person transfers, mechanical lifts, pureed diets, feeding tubes, colostomy bags, IV therapy, full feeding, tracheostomy care, palliative care and much more..
What makes AMICA Taunton unique from all others is our team members. Our Memory Care team members are all completely certified in dementia care with special training in Gentle Persuasion.
In addition, only AMICA Taunton follows a Flex-Care Staffing Module. Bi-weekly, we review how much care we are providing to our residents, then adjust our staffing levels to ensure our residents are receiving premium care.
What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?
We recognize that moving into a retirement residence can be overwhelming and scary. Our amazing team is available to help with the transition 24/7, including a 24hr Concierge, offering emotional support when needed. Trial stays are also an option.
How are residents supported if their needs change?
At AMICA Taunton, we support every person throughout their life as they age-in-place. Our wellness team is here to support, whether a it's a temporary need or an ongoing one. Residents can easily transition from Independent Living to Assisted Living or Memory Care, smoothly. We've designed each floor to "feel" the same so that transitions feel natural and familiar.
Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?
At AMICA we strive to honour the unique backgrounds and personal histories of our residents and team members. We have compassion for each other, and we strive to support a culture where everyone feels they truly belong. Equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) is at the heart of our corporate values and comes to life in the way we recognize and celebrate one another’s worth and uniqueness.

There is a common misconception about retirement living among older adults. Many seniors want to stay in their home for as long as possible but can become increasingly isolated and inactive over time. As the International Federation on Ageing notes, “the number one emerging issue facing seniors in Canada is keeping older people socially connected and active.” Furthermore, seniors and their families can find it more and more difficult to manage their health needs, which is why the senior care at AMICA Taunton offers such peace of mind.
