Bradford, Ontario: a growing area

Nancy speaks for many when she says, “We’ve lost many people because of a lack of seniors housing here. People who have lived here their entire lives, people who have made Bradford what it is.” But that all changed in 2018, with the addition of two new high quality developments. Previously, you may have had to look outside of town, in Barrie, Newmarket or elsewhere in the GTA.  According to Statistics Canada, Simcoe County is experiencing an aging rate higher than national and provincial averages. The proportion of adults aged 65 and over is 18 per cent of the population, compared to 16.7 per cent across Ontario and 16.9 per cent nationally.

These new developments in Bradford promise to bring the latest innovations in retirement care housing to the area. Independent lifestyle communities coming to the area will have features like gourmet dining, a pool and spa, and these will be a far cry from “nursing homes” of past generations.

In terms of deeper care, such as for those with dementia, developments will also bring the latest research and design features to provide safety and security for those requiring daily assistance. Again, previously, families would have had to go far outside the area to get the care they require. The latest innovations in memory care include design features that calm residents, manage wandering, and other effects of the disease.

Previously, seniors in Bradford needed to leave the area to find exceptional contemporary care and to find a community of seniors. Now, they will find a wonderful community made up mainly of fellow Bradfordians, right in town, thanks to new communities like those listed above.
