A Wedding to Remember: How The Vineyards Helped a Family's Wish Come True

CATEGORY: PERSONAL STORIES

Coming together to celebrate the special moments.

At The Vineyards Residence in Kelowna, community is more than a word; it’s something you feel in everyday moments and, sometimes, in the once-in-a-lifetime ones.

When Aaron and Sherri, who live in Edmonton, began planning their wedding, their priority was simple and heartfelt: they wanted both sets of parents to be there. Because Aaron’s dad is a Long-Term Care resident at The Vineyards and unable to travel, the couple made the decision to bring the wedding to him. They chose to hold their ceremony in the beautiful Reflection Room at The Vineyards Residence, where Aaron’s parents live, while Sherri’s parents flew in to be part of the day.

Aaron’s mom, a resident in Assisted Living, and his dad, a resident in Long-Term Care, were at the heart of this decision. His father had shared that seeing his son get married was one of his greatest wishes.

What began as a simple request to use the Reflection Room for a brief ceremony quickly became something far more meaningful.

In true Vineyards fashion, the team stepped in to transform a small plan into an unforgettable celebration.

LPN Meghan and her mother, a professional wedding planner, volunteered their time to beautifully decorate the Reflection Room, creating a setting worthy of the occasion. Paul, a former student who once lived in The Vineyards’ dorms and now volunteers and works part-time with the team, came in on his day off to play the cello, filling the space with warmth and emotion.

In the kitchen, culinary team members Pastry Chef Anna and Chef Mike worked closely with the bride’s request for a cake that was “soft pink and happy,” crafting a sweet centrepiece that reflected the joy of the day.

About 20 family and friends gathered for the intimate ceremony, including Sherri’s parents, who made the trip from Edmonton so they could stand alongside Aaron’s parents and witness the couple’s vows together. In the days leading up to the event, residents throughout the community shared in the excitement, frequently checking in on the progress of the decorations and eagerly anticipating the event.

And when the moment arrived, Aaron’s parents were thrilled. For his father, seeing his son married was a dream fulfilled. For his mother, being able to witness this milestone alongside him made the day even more meaningful.

Aaron and Sherri chose to postpone their honeymoon, wanting instead to spend as much time as possible with his parents during their visit. Their focus, like The Vineyards’, was on what truly mattered: being together.

This wasn’t just a wedding held at The Vineyards. It was a reflection of what happens when a team goes above and beyond to care for the people who call it home. It was about compassion, community, and doing the right thing for a wonderful family.

At The Vineyards Residence, special moments are never treated as small ones because for the people who live here, and the families who love them, they mean everything.
