Our Perspective

How we see Belmont House

Belmont House is unique for being a non-profit community that offers an impressively luxurious lifestyle. It also boasts excellence in care and amenities, on a beautiful park-like property in the heart of the prestigious Rosedale neighbourhood. With its community of cheerful peers and a friendly building rife with things to do, it’s a seniors’ garden of delights in the middle of Toronto.

If you’re going to move out of the house you love and are familiar with, move to a place that’s suited to the person you are at this age—but including so much more! That’s what Belmont House offers. You can truly live a full life in this building. There are many amenities and activities, excellent dining, and onsite services that include everything from pastoral care to art therapy to performances by music and theatre groups.

Seniors who move here find it very easy to make friends in the community and renew interests they’ve lost in recent years. There are little niches of interesting things to do everywhere. For example, there's a putting green on the side lawn, an arts and crafts room, a secure rooftop garden, and fun group exercise classes in the auditorium.

Apartments at the Belmont House are spacious and secure, but you’ll love the lively community here. This includes both seniors and staff. Staff are well-versed in offering physical care but also mental and emotional care. Seniors who move here find it revitalizing, and family members are deeply relieved by the care and lifestyle their loved ones gain here. To fully understand the complete living experience here, you have to try it.

Community’s Perspective

How Belmont House sees itself

Who are you as a community?

Nestled on 3½ acres in the heart of Toronto, just steps from Bay, Bloor, and the vibrant Yorkville neighbourhood, Belmont House offers a welcoming and supportive retirement lifestyle. Tenants can choose from a variety of comfortable studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites, each thoughtfully designed to feel like home. Life at Belmont House is about enjoying peace of mind while staying active and connected. Delicious chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, engaging social and recreational programs, and personalized support are all part of everyday living. Professional nursing staff are available around the clock, and emergency response services provide added reassurance for tenants and their families. Tenants also enjoy convenient on-site amenities, including physiotherapy services, a fitness room, a hair salon, and a convenience store, making it easy to maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle in a warm and caring community.

  • Ownership: Non-profit.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

Belmont House combines the feel of a close-knit residential community with the diligence and professionalism of a highly skilled care organization. We're recognized for our strong leadership, skilled staff, and high standards of care, including exemplary accreditation. There’s an active community life with daily programming, social opportunities, and a culture emphasizing respect, safety, and authentic relationships.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

We understand that moving is a major life transition, and we focus on helping tenants feel comfortable from day one. Newcomers are welcomed into a community where social activities, shared meals, and programs make it easy to meet neighbours and get involved. Staff members learn each tenant’s preferences and routines. The transition is supportive, focused on making you feel at home. Families have said that tenants quickly feel part of our community. You can participate in activities, volunteer initiatives, and social gatherings and soon feel like you belong.

How are residents supported if their needs change?

Professional nursing staff are on site, and care plans are thoughtfully adjusted to ensure tenants receive appropriate support as their needs change. At Belmont House, our team works closely with tenants, families, and healthcare providers to monitor well-being, coordinate services, and provide personalized assistance, helping tenants maintain their independence, comfort, and quality of life for as long as possible.

Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?

Someone looking primarily for a highly private lifestyle with minimal interaction or programming might find another setting more suitable. Belmont House is an excellent choice for people who like being part of a community, with high standards of care, and an active environment with fun, enjoyable daily activities.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Many people are surprised by the level of activity and engagement that exists throughout the community. We have a wide range of programs, events, and opportunities to participate in social and cultural activities, helping residents remain active and connected. Visitors have told us they sense a bond of trust residents have with staff. People are also surprised how quickly Belmont House feels like home, and people wish they’d made the move earlier.

How will your community change in the next five years?

Over the next five years, Belmont House will be transformed through the development of a new, purpose-built residence. The new building will offer modern accommodations, enhanced accessibility, and updated amenities designed to support comfort, wellness, and independence. While our physical space will evolve, our commitment to personalized care, meaningful connections, and a vibrant community will remain at the heart of Belmont House.

What five facts about your community should people know?

1. Belmont House has been serving older adults in Toronto for over 170 years, providing compassionate care and a strong sense of community.
2. Daily activities, social programming, and engagement opportunities are built into our community.
3. Professional nursing staff and care teams are available to support residents’ health and wellbeing.
