Our Perspective

How we see Amica Dundas

Amica is a trusted, premium name in senior living, with a reputation for helping seniors live a comfortable lifestyle in its lovely buildings. Amica Dundas brings to bear their three decades of experience in more than 30 locations Canada-wide.

Experience means they know how to listen to seniors. They make it a pleasure to live here, following their motto “Your day, your way.” Flexibility is seen in key aspects like dining (you choose when and where to eat) and care (a diligent interview process gives residents an individualised care plan). The continuum of care here ranges from independent and assisted living to memory care to end-of-life care.

Newness, cleanliness, and class are other hallmarks of the Amica brand on display here. The rooftop terrace is a highlight, along with private balconies on many suites. It’s close to the downtown core, combining history (since 1847) and modernity (bike lanes, outdoor markets, and all the shops you’ll need.) Abundant greenspace, Cootes Paradise, McMaster University, Hamilton Public Library, and Royal Botanical Gardens help create a vibrant, varied environment.

There are full kitchens in independent living suites. Respite care is available here, just one way of getting to know the community. When you move in, Amica provides an ambassador to acclimate you to life here. They also have experience helping people with downsizing. The generous activities calendar will get you off and running with the renewed social life you’ll enjoy inside Amica Dundas.

Community’s Perspective

How Amica Dundas sees itself

Who are you as a community?

Discover premium senior living at Amica Dundas. At this thriving retirement residence in Dundas, residents enjoy the small-town charm of this historic community as well as easy access to a variety of shops and services. Visitors and residents appreciate our accessible location just off Hwy 403, a short drive from downtown Burlington, Oakville or Hamilton. Our six-story building is a one-block stroll from independent shops, restaurants and services as well as residential neighbourhoods. Many of our suites have private balconies where you can relax with a coffee and take in views of the Niagara Escarpment or local green spaces; some of our Independent Living suites offer full kitchens. Outdoor common spaces include a rooftop terrace with comfortable seating, and a landscaped area where residents can tend their own raised garden beds. Amica Dundas is tucked into a neighbourhood with an inviting combination of established homes and the lovely green spaces and walking trails of the Rotary Creekside Parkette directly beside us. Take advantage of boutiques, services and eateries just steps away or meet a friend for coffee at Detour Café. Our neighbours include the Hamilton Public Library, Dundas Valley School of Art, and Carnegie Gallery.

What do you do differently or uniquely well?

At Amica, we empower residents to live independently while enjoying the peace of mind that comes with knowing total support is always available if needed.

Our diligent Wellness Team delivers professional, around-the-clock care that is personalized to each resident’s individual needs. Thanks to an in-depth discovery process upon move-in, we can ensure that each senior enjoys both the lifestyle and care experience that is best suited to them and their loved ones.

We take pride in the flexibility our residents have to plan their day as they wish: when and where they dine, which activities and social opportunities to participate in, when to enjoy downtime and more.

What supports do you offer residents as they adjust to life there?

Seniors are assigned a personal move-in liaison—one of the department leaders of the residence—to assist them with every step of the move-in process. We are happy to provide assistance with downsizing tasks before residents move in as well.

Once seniors arrive, they are paired up with a current resident ambassador. This ambassador helps the new resident navigate their first few days, guiding them and answering questions about all aspects of residence life.

How are residents supported if their needs change?

We understand that needs evolve overtime, and we are ready to accommodate residents with the following:
• Enhanced care services through to end-of-life, including Memory Care
• À la carte care services that seniors can add onto their current lifestyle option
• No obligation to move out once care needs change

Under what conditions would you advise someone against choosing your community?

Each Amica residence has its own distinct atmosphere and sense of community, based on the building’s design, its team members and residents, among many other factors. We encourage seniors and their loved ones to gauge whether Amica Dundas feels like the right fit for them by touring the residence, meeting our team and current residents, attending events, and perhaps experiencing a trial stay. Our team is happy to answer all questions families may have, so that we can support them in the decision-making process—even if it means recommending another location.

What might residents find surprising about your community?

Our residence is large in size (215 suites), but the community has an intimate, homey feel. Team members know all residents personally, including their needs and preferences. Seniors easily build friendships with each other as well, meeting during life-enriching activities, dining together and bonding over common interests.

How will your community change in the next five years?

In addition to having more seniors join our residence, we are always looking for ways to integrate more closely with the community-at-large. We are proud to be embedded in such a beloved town full of art and culture, and our vision is to grow with the surrounding area while doing everything we can to remain a strong community partner and a good neighbour.

We make it a priority to plan events and experiences that will serve the entire neighbourhood, so we hope seniors feel welcome to bring their family and friends to visit us!

What five facts about your community should people know?

• All dishes are prepared in-house by talented, professional chefs, enjoyed with flexible dining options for each meal including open seating every day
• We deliver professional, personalized care services that evolve with each resident; as individual needs change, so too does our care
• Our location and walkability are a big draw; we are close to the shops of downtown Dundas and green spaces
• Our Life Enrichment team builds a robust activity calendar each month filled with engaging social opportunities and exciting events, including local excursions on our residence bus
• Our residence prioritizes inclusivity, celebrating different holidays, religions, heritages, sexual orientations and more

Miriam Gersho, resident (2024)

(4.9)

I spent three months researching retirement residences. It didn’t take long for me to decide that Amica residences were a cut above the rest. Amica is philosophically aligned with my values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. That is reflected in everything they do, including the staff they hi...

Jeff Taylor, family member

"Great place for mom. Safe and secure."

Keith C. , resident

"Everything went extremely smoothly right from start to finish. In fact, I can’t think of even one thing that was negative! It’s been very good. You have all been so patient and so much fun. "
