Reviews of The Village of Wentworth Heights

Gain exclusive insight into life at The Village of Wentworth Heights. Comfort Life’s exclusive verified reviews and videos give you insider information from residents and their families.

Our perspective

Wentworth Heights is the perfect fit for Hamilton area seniors who miss the old days when you knew your neighbours, and everyone you met had a friendly "Hello." The village concept is truly unique and has to be experienced to be appreciated. Staff and residents love life in the village, and family members are thrilled when their senior family members find a home in such a vibrant place where they’re well cared for.

Still very new, this retirement village builds on the experience of other Schlegel Villages, in a community that progresses their innovative approach to senior care. Care ranges from independent living suites with walkout patios to units in the village's memory care neighbourhood.

Schlegel's philosophy emphasizes flexibility, resident empowerment, diversity, and collaboration among staff. They've been leaders in senior care for decades. Having worked with Schlegel for many years, now, we’ve seen that they're persistently focused on innovation, balanced with a commitment to care for every resident. Tour Wentworth Heights and see for yourself how well they care for the residents and the building that's their home.

My mother is in LTC, but we have the freedom to take her into the Retirement area and the LTC area. Every area of Wentworth Heights is beautiful, clean, and welcoming, so pleasant to walk around and sit in the comfortable seating areas. Today, we sat outside in the gorgeous main courtyard! The gardens are so well tended, the waterfall is so pretty and the fish are swimming around. The staff in LTC and in Retirement are consistently kind and welcoming to my mother and to my family. We consider ourselves blessed to have our mom cared for at the Village of Wentworth Heights...
I stopped at the main office in LTC this morning to take care of my mom's account and was helped by a friendly and efficient staff member, then I visited my mother in LTC and took her out for a walk into the Retirement area of the Village. We stopped at the Riverstone Spa and Salon because my mom needed a haircut. The staff were very kind and accommodating and took mom right away for her haircut and curl. It was such a pleasant experience, and Mom looked beautiful when she finished. Thank you! The rest of the morning, we walked around and were greeted by many staff members and residents, such an uplifting experience. Our family is so pleased that Mom is helped by the caring staff at the Village of Wentworth Heights. Much appreciated!

Everyone is always very friendly, the staff and residents. It's a treat to have The Ruby in-house. It's great to see infection control is in effect.

I put off writing a review three years ago when my mom first moved in but I definitely want to make sure to do it now!!
My mom, Teri, moved into Wentworth Heights as an independently living woman with early onset dementia. Her circumstances soon changed, and this facility played a crucial role in caring for her until her very recent death.
She found herself needing to be placed into “Emma’s” neighborhood on the second floor, where she got the utmost of care and compassion from the wonderful staff who work there. There aren’t enough spaces in this review post to go on as much as I want to go on about the staff in Emma’s!! Everyone cared for my mother like she was their own mother! We will forever be indebted to the staff at Emma’s, as well as all the other staff in the building. Thank you for taking care of our mother so well right until the last breath she took.

I cannot express how wonderful the Village of Wentworth Heights is and how grateful I am that they cared for my mother in her last two years of life. My mom came to the Village after being at two previous assisted living homes. ... I kept being told that my mom would be better off in LTC, which we wanted to avoid. The Village assured us they could provide for my mom's care, and they did.

At the Village, Mom lit up. She made friends with residents and staff, joined in activities and outings, and just in general lived her best possible life. When I went to visit her, we could actually visit and enjoy each other's company - it wasn't just a constant stream of complaints that I had to take care of for her.

The Village allowed my mom her independence and dignity far longer than if she'd been anywhere else. She could go to the salon and get her hair and nails done, go for walks in the garden, get an amazing meal at the onsite restaurant, have a house call with a doctor or nurse when required, go to a variety store... all of which would have been nearly impossible on her own.

As an only child living over an hour away, I felt confident that the Village could care for my mom when I couldn't be there. They communicated honestly with me any time something happened.

All of the staff - cleaners, PSWs, cooks, rec team, nurses, managers - became like family to my mom. ... At the Village, the same people who I met on my mom's first night were there the evening she passed away.

When my mom went into palliative care, the team jumped into action immediately and made sure my mom's needs were still being met and that she was comfortable. They checked on us constantly, read or played music for my mom, and offered me hot chocolate, snacks, and meals when they knew I had been there all day by her side.

When my mom did pass, while it was a heartbreaking experience, the Village gave her as much dignity in death as they did in life. They don't hide death from the residents. They honour it. Even though it was nearly 11 pm, staff stayed (or even came back after their shift was done) to walk with us and walk my mom out of the building one last time.

I cannot express how grateful I am to the Village and all of the people who work there. I'm just upset it took so long for me to find Mom's home. If you're considering the Village for a loved one, I highly, highly recommend them.

Best seniors residence I have seen ... something for everyone .... excellent food at the Ruby!

The overperform in their goals and objectives [for care and atmosphere]. They go above and beyond all of the time. Every couple of days my mother will relate an experience of kindness that didn't need to be done by a member of staff but it was... I talk to her every day and she's extraordinarily happy. What impresses me most is the people there.

We secured a spot for my brother in the LTC neighbourhood in May 2022. He is very happy and verbalized it just a few days ago. The leadership for the Rymal neighbourhood have been amazing not only helping to transition my brother into his new home but answering my questions as well. Thank you to everyone at WH for creating a welcoming home for my brother!

John Wallace, resident

Elsie Bosma, family member

Our mom lived here for a few years in assisted living. Wonderful caring staff. Always friendly. Very clean . Her room faced Rymal road, so [it was] very sunny and bright.

Doug, resident

My wife and I moved into this village Dec 13 2016. Our decision to do so was based on the ownership, staff, administration. The staff have always treated us with respect and are always friendly. We have good entertainment and lots of crafts and games to do. We have never been so happy and well cared for.

Lisa, family member

Fantastic suites and facilities. The staff are very knowledgeable.

Gordon, resident

Everything worked out so well. The move-in went so smoothly, and I have to say we are exactly where we want to be.

Bonnie, family member

The Schlegel Village was very supportive in the transition here. After sitting down with staff, we decided as a family that this was the right move for mom ... Every week we see a lot of improvement in her... [By the time we moved her in] we knew that she was in good hands and we knew that she would be taken care of.

Caroline Brown, family member

[Since moving here in April 2019], our parent's experience has been [nothing but] positive ... The staff are friendly, helpful and available. There is a genuine effort to present interesting and tasty meals ... The main floor 'Village' concept is unique and [inviting]. Their apartment is cheerful and efficient.
