Reviews of The Village of Glendale Crossing

Gain exclusive insight into life at The Village of Glendale Crossing. Comfort Life’s exclusive verified reviews give you exclusive insider information.

Our perspective

The Village of Glendale Crossing creates a good-natured community made up of both seniors and staff. The care and nursing staff here get an especially high grade for “going that extra mile” as part of their daily routine. With the opening of Phase 3 in 2023, The Village became a fuller, more vibrant community that benefits strongly from Schlegel’s town square layout and other features. Friends meet each other throughout the building, and a lively daily activities schedule further enhances the social life.

An established long-term care community, The Village now provides happy retirement living for a diverse group of seniors, as Schlegel does in other communities across the province. There’s an indoor cafe where friends meet, a library where readers relax or chat quietly by the fieldstone fireplace, a chapel, a general store, a community center, a greenhouse, a beauty salon and barber shop, and a hobby and craft room. The Ruby dining room and The Riverstone spa and salon make it feel like a resort. Seniors thrive here.

As much as Glendale Crossing feels like a small town, even more so, it feels like a place you want to call home, where you feel you can live very nicely. In independent living and senior apartments, seniors find daily joy in many friends just outside the door of their suites. It combines care for your neighbour with a focus on positivity, in a secure setting where everyone trusts each other, following Schlegel's visionary ideal of seniors' villages.

As the owner of a business that supports seniors who are transitioning homes, we have moved many clients into Glendale Crossings. The whole village has a wonderful vibe to it - I see seniors out of their rooms engaging in activities and the goings on of village life. There is always a bustle of activity throughout the home and a very social place when in the village. The staff is always warm and inviting and very caring towards the residents and guests. It feels very bright, spacious, and friendly - always clean and well maintained - I would certainly recommend!

As always, I had a good experience. The staff is great. I enjoy visiting with my siblings, and I am always welcomed by the staff.

My father and I had a wonderful lunch followed by a tour with Monika. We found the home open, clean, spacious, warm, and welcoming. We had lunch at the Ruby, which was a real treat, and the food was excellent. My parents are on a wait list but we have been invited to several of their events, the latest being an educational lunch and learn session on Alzheimer's. Feeling part of the community there makes all the difference. Lots of activities in a modern setting with friendly staff on site. Much gratitude for all you do!

When our elderly relative could no longer live independently and needed help with meals and some daily care, we took him to meet the team at Glendale Crossing for a tour. We were all impressed with the facility, from the 'village' concept with a town hall, meeting space, coffee lounge, and other common area amenities, it genuinely feels like a small community.
The place is spotlessly clean, and meals are both nutritious and delicious, the staff is relentlessly attentive, and we have never once had a cause for even the mildest complaint.
Glendale Crossing is a high-end retirement community, and it shows with every attention to detail and the quality of the staff, but if your relative or family can afford it, we highly recommend it as an option.

The team at Glendale Crossing Retirement Residence is a pleasure to work with. Monika and Holly are knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely care about building meaningful relationships in the community. They are truly dedicated to supporting seniors and their families.

Schlegel’s Glendale Crossing in London, Ontario, offers an incredibly caring and vibrant atmosphere for residents of the Village. My mother, at 83, was one of the first to sign up to become a resident and one of the first to move in. It was a decision she never regretted.

When the building was getting close to completion, she took my spouse and I to view the sample suites. There we met Heather Hyland, the assistant manager. After touring the suites and speaking with Heather, we were also sold on the move. Heather was so accommodating, answering all questions and concerns (both before and after the tour) with such care and compassion, my spouse and I walked away feeling very good about my mother’s decision.

The suite my mother chose was a corner unit on the top floor. It has a full kitchen and laundry room in addition to 2 full bathrooms and 2 bedrooms (or one bedroom and a study). It is bright and spacious, well laid out, and decorated in a neutral colour scheme, with many of the necessary safety features we need as we age integrated tastefully into the design.

The hallways are bright and wide and tastefully decorated. There are handrails on both sides, but so well integrated into the hallway design that they are neither obvious nor glaring. The main floor of the Village, known as “Main Street”, provides a variety of spaces for residents’ use. Ranging from the library with a fireplace, providing a cozy space to read and relax, to the bar with a pool table, providing a multi-use space for gathering with friends.

The Village provides a monthly schedule of events, with daily activities ranging from bingo, cards, crafts, puzzles, movie night (with popcorn), BBQs, ice cream truck, exercise, and a weekly happy hour. The activities offered provide the residents with many opportunities to connect with others in the building.

At one end of the top floor of the building is the Ruby Restaurant. The Ruby offers a nice pay-as-you-go dining experience for residents, especially those who do not pay for a meal plan. It also provides a space for residents to entertain family and guests. It is open for lunch and dinner dining services 4 days a week (Wednesday lunch is called “Ruby on the Run”, a grab-and-go service set-up on Main Street on the main floor of the building). The restaurant was one of my mother’s favourite spaces in the building. The restaurant has glass windows all around, offering an amazing view. The staff add to the ambiance through the quality of service offered and care and respect shown to the residents. Rob (manager) and Hardeep (chef) always took such amazing care of my mother when she dined there (2-3 times each week). When she was sick, and during the last few months of her life, they also delivered meals we ordered to her suite, going out of their way to make sure she had everything she needed.

Although my mother lived on a fully independent living floor, she still had access to the 247 nursing services provided by Glendale when needed. The nursing station is centrally located on Main Street. The nurses are very responsive when their services are requested, either by phone or the red pull cords located in the bathrooms. Whenever my mother was ill, once notified, they did several daily checks on her, taking all her vitals, and offering food trays to help her get through the illness. When needed, pay-per-use shower assistance was also available.

The staff at Glendale Crossing are always friendly and caring. They went well above and beyond during the last few months of my mother’s life. Those she knew well would come to check on her and eventually to say their goodbyes. Their caring and compassion were further evident in their participation in, and outpouring of sadness during the Honour Guard held for my mother (and for all residents) as she left the building for the last time, followed by her family members.

One staff member in particular that I wish to call out is Heather Hyland (Assistant Manager of Glendale Crossing). From our initial meeting with Heather prior to the building opening until after my mother passed away, Heather has been a godsend. We were extremely happy to learn prior to my mother moving in that Heather was assigned as the 8th-floor Ailsa Craig Neighbourhood Coordinator, the person responsible for overseeing the residents' well-being. Heather is a truly kind and compassionate woman who goes way over the top in performing her job, a job she clearly enjoys. The personalized care she showed my mother and her attentiveness to my mother’s health and well-being were more than I could have ever expected, reducing the typical concerns that come with aged parents living independently. Heather readily responded to and addressed any issues or concerns that my mother or I had that we informed her about. When my mother was sick, Heather would regularly check on her, bringing her juices, soup with crackers, and jello/pudding, and making sure she had everything else she needed. She also always took the time to chat, so she didn’t feel alone. After her visits, she would email or call to provide me with updates.

When my mother was nearing the end of her life, Heather came by every day she was working to visit with my mother, making sure all her needs were being met and that all her wishes at the end of life were known and respected. She was even with my family when my mother passed and helped to make sure the funeral home staff treated her body with respect. She then led the Honour Guard, stopping in the centre of Main Street to say some words about my mother to those gathered. My spouse and I cannot thank her enough for all she did for our mother and for us. I hope that the Schlegel family knows what a gem they have in Heather Hyland!

A big thank you to Heather Hyland and all the Glendale staff and residents who helped make the last 2 years of my mother’s life vibrant ones!!!

Our experience with Glendale’s apartments, restaurant, staff, and Village life has led my spouse and me to add moving to a Schlegel Village to our post-80 living plans, once a similar Village is built in Windsor. Our only recommendations are for future builds: have more floors with large units (people moving from large homes are more likely to feel more at home and more inclined to move into the larger units) especially corner units on the higher levels (of which there are only 2 in the Villages in London); expand the kitchen in the Ruby to accommodate a higher volume of food preparation at one time; provide the Ruby chef with more flexibility in the menu offerings; and to make sure there is a fully functioning kitchen directly beside the dining room on the main level to provide more responsive service, hot food, and higher quality food for residents with meal plans, as opposed to sharing one kitchen with the older attached higher care facility, whose residents have somewhat different dietary needs.

Fantastic pristine environment with a wonderful team/staff. The tranquility and cleanliness here are second to none.

Came to help my mom with Christmas Cards. We sat in the lounge area, chatting and writing them all out. Beautiful space and nice listening to the Christmas music.

Paula Edwards, family member

My family was so very happy to find an apartment suite for our father after our mother died. The intake team of Monica and Holly, and Rema is exceptionally attentive and helpful. Our father was showered with attention from all the staff, especially the PCAs and dining staff, and especially Elise. He loves the activities, especially the music concerts and painting class. And it is so wonderful to have an in-house Physio team. Everyone at The Villages is kind and patient, and they work very hard to meet all the needs of the seniors. Tina, the coordinator, is exceptional, and the RNs are fantastic. Too many great professionals to name! The other resident seniors are a lively group and have welcomed our father with lots of friendly advice—and fun. He has settled in quite well and now refers to The Village of Glendale as his home.

Our family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care my mom received during her nine months at Glandworth neighborhood, second Floor, Village of Glendale Crossing. From the very beginning, the staff treated her with compassion, dignity, and respect. They not only provided excellent medical and personal care, but also showed genuine kindness, patience, and warmth that made a difficult journey easier for both her and our family.

The nurses, caregivers, and support staff went above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable and supported. We will always remember their dedication and the comforting presence they brought during such an important time.

Thank you for the love and care you gave to our mom. It meant more to us than words can. A special thanks to Sandra, Glory, and Scott, who made mom’s moments enjoyable

Our parents moved into Glendale Crossing 4 months ago, and it was the best move they made.

From the moment we called to make an appointment for a tour to the moment they moved in, the experience has been exceptional. We mostly dealt with Monika and Reema, and they were so helpful with all of the questions and concerns we had along the way. It was a very emotional time for us as we had serious concerns with our parents living on their own, and Monika was so supportive of us.

Our parents are loving their new apartment and making friends, and enjoying the activities. Every time we visit our parents everyone has been so friendly. My father has had some falls since moving in, and the immediate response and notifications by the nursing staff has been so comforting for us all. [It's] the perfect place for our parents to live safe and happy.

Helen King, resident

Just on one floor, there is a lot of stuff you can do.

Greg Blumson, family member

My parents moved in a year and a half ago. Both were apprehensive. Staff quickly assured them things would be fine. They have taken to my parents like a second family. It has put me at ease knowing that they are getting such good care.

Tracy Holland, family member

My mom stayed at the village for post-surgical respite care. The staff and support were fantastic, and the care provided to my mom was exceptional. Her experience was very positive! Thank you again for such exceptional care.

The staff at Glendale Crossings are so incredibly friendly!

Rob Weir, family member

Staff are very friendly and the nurse followed [up on] my mother’s condition and breathing.

David Harrington, family member

I visit with my father several times every week, and am grateful for the attention and care he receives at The Village of Glendale Crossing/ Assisted living. He is 96 1/2 yrs. old, and has some issues with confusion and memory, but is still able to live somewhat independently, while still knowing that he is being watched and his needs are met. Definitely give us( his family) peace of mind, knowing he is not alone. The staff are friendly, helpful, and supportive, and have become like family to him.

Paul Armstrong, visitor or friend

We were visiting there, and it was the most well-designed retirement community that I have ever seen. Hats off to the designers!!!

Lisa Leslie, family member

This place is the best. My parents love it here, and I see them thriving. It’s always bright and clean, and the staff always say hello and smile.

It's the best!

My husband and I moved into Glendale Crossing retirement residence on February 15, 2024. Our son Jerry checked it out after I had suffered a stroke in Dec 2023 and was in Rehabilitation at Parkwood. He described Glendale as walking into a resort hotel and after a tour and meeting with the staff, he was convinced this was the best place for us. We couldn’t be happier or more content here at Glendale. It provides so much for the residents. Music, games all kinds of activities and outings. We have exercise, hairdresser, massage therapist, and our doctor to mention just a few of our amenities. Thank you Glendale and thank you also for the very friendly staff and also the wonderful residents we have made friends with.

Glenda Croke, family member

We received the warmest welcome from Monika. The residence is beautiful, open & bright. My dad was thrilled as this was not what he was not expecting. He has been living in a 1 bedroom apartment for 5 months. He opted for lunch & dinner to be included. He feeds the fish in the back pond every morning and walks to nearby stores & around the neighbourhood. He can often be seen working at a puzzle in the games room where he has met some wonderful people. We couldn’t be happier for him.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the village of Glendale Crossing for creating such a lovely place for seniors to live.
The thought and care that went into every detail Is evident the moment that you step in the lobby. It’s clear that the well-being and happiness is of their residents was at the forefront of their vision. And while the facility is absolutely beautiful, it’s the kind, compassionate, and dedicated staff that make Glendale Crossing, an exceptional place to live. I’m deeply grateful for the care and attention they provide every day. Thank you for making this a place that I can truly call my home.

Margaret Ross, resident

It is a wonderful facility. The staff went above and beyond to help me.

Pat Loncke, resident

Glendale Crossing is an amazing seniors residence. When you first walk in the door, it feels like a beautiful resort, so bright with sunshine and a welcoming lobby area. All of the staff is very friendly, caring, and attentive to the personal and medical needs of the residents, a real family atmosphere. The rooms are well-appointed and very spacious. The management team is well-organized and answers any questions you may have in a timely manner. Support staff is always cleaning and tidying on a continual basis. The dining room staff presents food in a friendly manner and is attentive to dietary requirements. The streetscape town atmosphere on the ground floor, makes residents and visitors feel at home as soon as you walk in the door.
All you have to do is enjoy life!

Joanne Jones, family member

Beautiful facility with caring, friendly staff. Feel so good about moving my mom to Glendale Crossing. Monika was amazing, warm, and understanding, from the first moment I met her.

Robert Nickerson, resident

My partner, Barbara, and I [have] found Glendale Crossing a wonderful home that is not a nursing home, but a retirement home. It gives us an opportunity to enjoy the balance of our lives. There has not been one item that I have suggested that they have not picked up on. They provide opportunity to exercise, and the monthly calendar provides opportunities for individuals to really enjoy themselves. Barbara and I have enjoyed the time in the home since December 8, 2023. We especially enjoy the company that we meet in the Village. We looked at apartment buildings and decided that having no neighbours our age is not the type of life we want. We are enjoying the company of people of our age and participating in programs that are important to us at our age. Come and join us at Glendale Crossing and enjoy the rest your life with great staff that make you feel like family.

Fran Blewett, resident

I have had the pleasure of being at Glendale Crossing since November 16, 2023. I have so enjoyed the whole experience, I have a beautiful room on the eighth floor and I have had nothing but a smooth move-in with assistance when needed. I really have to commend the Crossing staff as they have been welcoming, approachable, and supportive. I consider this a 5-star experience all the way around and I look forward to spending many happy years in this establishment.

Erella Rousseau, family member

The newly opened building of Glendale Crossing feels cheerful and welcoming the moment you enter the front door. The units themselves are very well finished, feeling luxurious. There is the added convenience of laundry machines in each unit. My mom does all her own cooking, she makes good use of the weekly shuttle to the grocery store(so I can’t comment on the food at the dining hall). She loves chatting with her new friends over a cup of coffee on the main floor cafe.
The layout of the building allows for ample opportunity to socialize, as well as having a variety of scheduled daily activities offered within the building. The staff are very friendly and attentive to my parents’ needs, and will give individualized visits to their unit to provide information and encouragement. My mom feels extremely supported because any of her concerns are addressed promptly, thoroughly and professionally. I highly recommend this accommodation as an excellent environment for seniors.

D. R., family member

Nothing but fantastic results. Attentive and helpful. Period. Our mom loves it here.

Wayne Reynolds, family member

My mother Irene Reynolds was a resident in long term and she loved it there. The staff treated her with such kindness, support and more. She passed away in there and she was loved by staff and residents. I am now waiting for long term and Glendale Crossing is where I want to go to.

Phil, family member

My mum lived on the Westminster Neighbourhood for a year following her stroke before recently passing away. The regular PSW's , RPN's, and RN's are incredible and went the extra mile to make sure she was comfortable, especially once we had to put her in palliative care. The food was very good, always with choice and accommodating to special requests. The physiotherapists kept her moving until that was no longer possible, and they offer a wide variety of extra curricular activities for the residents. They always made sure she was aware of what was going on, and would extend personal invites. She loved the spiritual program offered by Maureen, that was probably her favourite activity. Housekeeping was there every day, and they also take an active interest in the residents. Like most people mum did not really want to be there in the beginning but soon called it home and felt very lucky to live there.

Jeanette Maloney, family member

My husband has been there almost five years now. Brighton staff are excellent (caring, friendly). So glad I was able to get him in. He has issues that can be trying at times however all staff couldn't be better in handling it and keeping me well informed. There may have been past issues, prior to our arrival, however I highly recommend The Village of Glendale Crossing.
