Reviews of OPAL Vancouver

Gain exclusive insight into life at OPAL Vancouver. Comfort Life’s reviews give you exclusive insider information.

Our perspective

OPAL represents an exciting new vision in senior care, offering superior senior living, with an upscale modern design and up-to-the minute technology, in an intergenerational living environment. This building, the flagship of Element Lifestyle Retirement Inc., has excited us here at Comfort Life, since we first heard about it in 2016.

Opened in June 2020, OPAL by Element incorporates all of the best elements of contemporary senior living. Amenities and services include chef-prepared meals, an onsite spa and beauty salon, an interior pub, rooftop patios, and an ongoing list of other features. The design includes 30,000 square feet of very unique innovations indoor and outdoor. These include a rock salt wall for yoga exercises and tai chi, a full-service wellness spa for daily rejuvenation, and an interior IT centre. Versatile care staff and facilities provide a complete continuum of care, from independent living to memory care and long term care.

For all those impressive features, the front and centre attraction here is dining and culinary features. OPAL offers an in-house program where residents can engage in cooking classes taught by the executive chef onsite. There will also be a communal table for dining with larger groups of friends, as well as private dining and living rooms. The variety of authentic cuisine ranges from ethnic dishes like aburi sashimi and sushi, to a menu of locally supplied farm-to table foods. In addition to the great food, there are wine tastings, a water bar with fruit and herb infusions, and a High Tea Service.

I feel so fortunate to have joined the Opal and to be living in this stressfree and most attractive environment! I love the multi-age concept and the diverse culture atmosphere here. The buildings are full of light and delightful art ,a lovely dining room with interesting menu choices, comfortable seating areas to enjoy conversations with interesting residents. Lots of choices of activities to join, makes life interesting! But what is most important to me is the staff and their welcoming, helpful and fun attitude with everyone they deal with ..... I feel very much at home at the Opal.

I was looking for an intergenerational community with Independent Living and licensed care options for my husband, who needs a licensed care suite, and me. I couldn't find a suitable community until my friend Stanley introduced OPAL to me. OPAL Licensed Care suites have 24-hour registered nurses, a team of healthcare aids, a rehab assistant, onsite physicians, recreation assistants, and an onsite dietician. I love OPAL recreation classes like gym, Zumba, Tai Chi, dance expressions, and bus tours. I have my favorites food in OPAL: double-boiled soup, Shanghaiese, and Cantonese food.

I do enjoy the life, the food and all the activities in Opal that's why I put the 5 stars for OPAL. My favorite activities are the exercising events such as dance class and pool. The culinary programs' "food" are the best. I love the Chinese and European style food. Everyday we have different menu that's the best! Every week we have a bus tour for field trip. Opal Recreation take us to many places that I never been before. They are amazing!

OPAL is a good place for seniors. Good food, cleaning weekly, and many activities to join. Air conditioning is a big advantage in this hot weather.

OPAL is definitely a gem. I was looking for a place for my mom who needs 24/7 care in the Vancouver area. I toured all of the top senior communities over three years and none was the right fit. Then came OPAL. I have high expectations on quality of the physical space, service, care and food. Our family members had multiple meals at OPAL with my mom and WOW! The food was as good as top restaurants and presentation, beautiful. I always promised my mom that I would never encourage her to move anywhere that I personally would not stay at. OPAL is a home run in every aspect. My usual lodging is the Shangri La or the Fairmont Pacific Rim when I visit, next time I'll request a hospitality suite at OPAL so I can stay close to my mom and enjoy the lifestyle. The staff, care team members and admin are all incredibly warm and kind. They run the senior community like it's a Four Seasons but better, with more service, amenities and tremendous kindness.

There comes a time in most people’s lives when they have to come to a decision about moving out of their family house. it is prudent to start early and not too late... After a short trial stay [at OPAL by Element], I was hooked. The staff is most courteous, you feel the welcoming atmosphere from everyone. Good food and great activity calendar. I have a beautiful corner suite – lots of large windows, very bright, I love it! OPAL is run with the efficiency of a 5 Star Hotel, but to me it is a compassionate and welcoming home.

You certainly get what you pay for and with OPAL, they seem to have all the bases covered. We were one of the first families to move into OPAL when they opened. The facility is bright, spacious, and impeccably clean. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and fast to respond in an emergency. My father-in-law transitioned with ease, and OPAL was right there coaching and supporting us while we worked to convince him it was time. [He] is in the Licensed Care facility of OPAL and it is secure, safe, and only visitors who have been approved may take him from the facility.
