Governors Walk's setting in a historic monastery in the established New Edinburgh neighbourhood hints at the disciplined compassion, soulful community, and peaceful living you'll find here. The care here caters to people’s needs, served enthusiastically by the staff. It offers a grounded, holistic approach to senior living.
Health services offered are multifarious, including continence care. Medication management and care services are included where needed, of course, but it’s administered as part of a focus on healthy living. Programming includes mind, body, and soul, with each aspect well-accounted for by activities available within this community. Alongside more prosaic things like card games, Bingo and Bocce ball, life-enriching events include outings to local theatres and museums, as close to Ottawa’s heart as this community is.
We've collected reviews and testimonials from around the web that are relevant to you: those from residents and their loved ones.
Wonderful, caring staff who have a long tenure working at Governors Walk. Located in a beautiful, quaint neighbourhood across from Stanley Park with a wonderful Roof Top Terrace overlooking Parliament Hill, where you can enjoy viewing the fireworks. Residents and families also enjoy barbecues on the Roof Top Terrace, along with staff taking them for walks to Stanley Park when the weather permits.
The place is great.
Governors Walk merges the traditions of its past with progressive, ambitious care programs. Its unique boutique residence neighboring the GG's residence and Stanley Park is nestled into one of Ottawa's most beautiful neighborhoods. A perfect place to Age in Place in style and dignity.
Governor’s Walk was the perfect choice after my 92-year-old father’s three-month hospital stay. Walking to the dining room was a challenge at first, but within a few months, thanks to the many tree-lined river paths, the safe, scenic neighborhood, nearby Rideau Hall grounds, and easy access to grocery stores and restaurants, he can walk several kilometres with his walker. The small residence means the friendly, professional staff know everyone by name, and medication management gives us peace of mind. The food has greatly improved, which he really appreciates. He loves his unit, furnished with his favorite belongings. Governor’s Walk also fared well during a recent COVID outbreak, controlling the spread and adapting procedures. It truly was the right choice!
After a knee surgery, I checked into Governors Walk on Stanley for respite care and I was so very glad I did so. My stay was a great factor in my post surgery recovery and I would recommend this to everyone as our hospitals release people too early post surgery due to a lack of beds and care services.
Governors Walk has amazing staff who are friendly willing and go above and beyond to make people feel comfortable and cared for. The individual and common rooms are clean, spacious and bright and the meals are truly very good.
I took the opportunity to chat with a couple permanent residents of Governors Walk in the resident’s lounge and dining room and they all made very positive comments in regard to living here.
I will not hesitate to return and to recommend it to friends who are seeking a good and safe place for their elderly relatives.
My stay was a very positive experience.
I am a resident at Governors Walk and very happy with the care, and the food is delicious. I look forward to going to my meals and activities. I highly recommend Governors Walk to anyone looking to live in a beautiful place in a beautiful area right across from Stanley Park overlooking Parliament Hill.
Incredible staff, without exception. Excellent standard of care, including personal care and group activities. Bright, clean, and welcoming environment/space. It is comforting to know that my dad is being looked after in such a great home.
My mother moved into Governor’s Walk right after a hospital stay. The moment she stepped inside her unit she said that it felt like home. She absolutely loved it! She was the happiest she had been in a long time. She told me she felt safe and secure. Most importantly, she told me how much the staff cared. I cannot say enough about how attentive and kind the staff are at Governor’s Walk. My mom said that the staff listened, were patient, and took the time to help her adjust to her new life. I feel so fortunate to have found such a wonderful place for my mom to spend her final days.
A member of my family was at Governor's Walk for 6 days of respite care post-surgery in February 2024. We were happy with everything. The staff and the nurses were caring and interested yet non-intrusive. We saw several times when the staff went out of their way to help their resident (eg.; the receptionist getting a resident a blanket from another floor bc the resident was cold at movie night; a confused resident reassured that she wasn't lost and taken back to her room.) The room was comfortable and charming with its bay window and walk-in shower. The renovations look great and there will soon be an activity room on the first floor. The food was good and varied. I highly recommend the bran muffins. Also, the parking was plentiful and convenient so it made our visits easy. We would return here in an instant. The staff were sweet calling it a "Hotel Stay" not respite care! Thank you, Governor's Walk.
In December 2021 I started my fourth year at Governors Walk. Every day I feel fortunate to live in such a wonderful home where the staff at all levels is caring, sensitive and competent.
My suite as well as all common areas are kept clean, the dining room is attractive and the food well above average.
My husband was bedridden for 2 months and died in September 2021. The care and affection he received were exceptional.
I don't think I could find a better place to live.
I have lived at Governors Walk for 4 years and love it. The food is great and the staff are very helpful. They are always warm and caring. I highly recommend Governors Walk.
My aunt has been at this residence for years. She loves the food and friendly atmosphere.
