I moved my parents to Amica Little Lake this fall after touring many retirement homes in Barrie and am very pleased with my decision. It is bright, clean, and offers an excellent variety of events and quiet places to relax. There are too many excellent staff to mention by name, but they are everywhere: dining room, IT, cleaning staff, as well as the team of hands-on care partners and RNs. They know who they are. The ones who put their hand on their heart when they hear of your loved one's passing and ask how you are doing because they truly care. Yes, Amica is expensive. But it was the right choice for us.

Our Dad moved to Amica Little Lake in Barrie this year. He was on the Assisted Living floor. Unfortunately, he passed away at the ripe old age of 95. We could not have asked for better care than was provided to him. The Nursing & PSWs were next level! The management was superb. We felt like they were family and made our Dad so comfortable. He had been to other retirement homes in the past, but this place stood out. Thank you for taking great care of him!

I would like to thank the Amica Little Lake staff for their care and concern when moving in my family member. It is the perfect place for her. She enjoys the entertainment, the speakers, and the outings. She has become healthier since moving there, and her one-bedroom suite is large and beautiful. All the staff treat people with respect, and helped make a very difficult time into a smooth and positive experience.

Tammy, the head of nursing, and Laura, the Director of Amica client care, were quick to assist, offering outstanding care to our Mother who required daily care subsequent to her hospital stay. Tammy, Laura, and the entire staff at Amica Little Lake went out of their way to offer daily care and support for our mother. The staff, nurses, PSWs were amazing, kind, and caring. As a result of their outstanding care, our mother improved in her health plight and became stronger, more independent and able to become independent in her daily living. Thank you to Tammy Deschamps, Laura Vincent, and all the Amica Staff. You are amazing people!!!

Our mother had the pleasure to move into this beautiful home in April 2022. The location overlooking Little Lake is lovely with many spots to enjoy the view (balconies or the lower level). While parking can be a challenge, this is eased when you enter the home and feel the activity and overall happiness of the residents. So many options for one to join in social events and to enjoy a variety of outings or activities.

Our Mom made many friends quickly amongst staff and residents. Staff assisted with encouraging friendships (likeminded people) or aiding Mom to get to her activities.

Staff from the care team, housekeeping, to dining staff are special here. To name a few staff/team members; Kelsey, Dhruvi, Monali, Anne (RCP), Goldie, Gaganpreet (Lala), Joe (culinary), Bhonsi (activities), Savannah, Dakota, Sarah (housekeeping), Cassidy, Christie, Dhruvi (evenings), and Brittany (& many others) all made special efforts to know Mom (& her routine) and provide the best care to her and most of all love her.

Tammy, as the Director of Care, has been a welcome addition for hearing concerns with respect to the care plan for Mom, especially as Mom declined. Michelle and Laura are available to guide and assist as well, to make things better where they can. Lisa was always helpful and kind in managing issues. And Monil ensured anything maintenance-wise was dealt with promptly.

This was Mom's third retirement residence due to health circumstances (moving at 90 yrs old from another city to be closer to us). Like anywhere else, I’d recommend family being involved in care and review the monthly invoices and care plans (regularly) for accuracy.

Being an active participant in your family member’s care makes the experience in any retirement home more personalized and ensures proper care. I can say management at Little Lake addresses matters when brought to their attention. ...

Amica Little Lake is the only home we’ve found (Collingwood, Midland and Barrie area) where Mom could move into and stay (lifts, transfers with mechanical means) no matter how her health declined. It truly was HOME, where another move to long-term care wasn’t required to be considered or managed.

Overall, Mom enjoyed living here, was glad she moved here, and thought her care was good. The food has a nice variety and is delicious, and the activities offered are wonderful. Mom passed away earlier this year. However, I still visit my friends at Amica and I am welcomed “home” every time by staff, residents, and management. That’s pretty remarkable.

A beautiful retirement home.

Our mother recently had knee surgery and was in need of respite care. Amica was able to accommodate her for a one-month stay. She received the care and attention required to help her with a successful recovery. Whether it was with the staff or other residents of Amica, she was able to socialize and participate in any of the activities made available, which we feel was an added benefit to her recovery. Choosing Amica was the best option for our mother. If this is a service that you are looking for, the sooner you can plan, the better, as there are procedures and paperwork required.

Our Mother has been a resident at Amica since November, and when she became a new resident, she had recently completed a lengthy hospital stay due to heart issues and subsequent complications. She had lost her appetite completely and was weak. The staff at Amica have been extremely pleasant and helpful in her regaining some strength back. She even loves eating again. Can’t say enough about the chef and meals at Amica! Everyone from the Nurses, Personal Care Workers, Management Team, concierge, wait staff, etc., have been so inviting, pleasant and helpful. She even has special nicknames for some of the lovely people that care for her. She has made many new friends and enjoyed many of things that Amica has to offer. Thank you for your caring and concern.

I visit Amica (Barrie) regularly and am impressed with the ambiance there. The staff is caring, friendly, and sensitive to the needs of the residents. It would not take much convincing for Beth and I to move into Amica when the time comes.

Neat. Friendly. Good temperature.

In the fall of 2023, my Aunt and I set out to find her a retirement residence where she felt comfortable transitioning to from her independent living. We visited several residences in the Barrie area, however it was Amica Little Lake that stood out above the rest. The first thing we noticed was the staff and their level of care. We have found all of the staff to be courteous, professional and friendly. They take the time to talk and listen to her and even know her cat's name. They are also very attentive if she has any needs.
I have found management to always be approachable and available to discuss any concerns with a genuine sense of care for her well-being. I am called immediately if they have any concerns that they want me to be aware of. This is very reassuring for me. Any concerns I have had have been remedied immediately.
Repeatedly my Aunt will tell me how happy she is at Amica and how it feels more like a resort than a retirement residence. The quality and variety of meals are excellent with different healthy choices available every day including appetizers, main courses, desserts and a glass of wine if desired. There is a free coffee and snack bar that's always available for everyone including visitors. The residence is always extremely clean and odor-free (very important to my Aunt). Lastly, she really enjoys the variety of daily events and activities every day including a teaching kitchen. Theme events are frequent and very well done with outside entertainment often brought in. Amica at Little Lake is a 5 out of 5 on all levels and I know my Aunt could not be happier anywhere else.

My mother loves living here.

My mother was a resident of Amica for 20 months but she sadly passed away recently. After an initial short period of adjustment, my mom came to enjoy all the activities and the food offered by Amica. The staff was always very caring and accommodating to my mom. We take great comfort in the outstanding care my mom received in the last couple of months of her illness. I would highly recommend Amica to anyone considering a retirement home for a loved one.

My mother-in-law (Myrna) moved into Amica in July 2022. She was originally in Assisted Living while we waited for a spot in the memory care unit. In memory care, as her dementia progressed, the Amica staff were able to accommodate her progressive level of care (wheelchair bound and Hoyer lift). They were always very professional, kind, caring, empathetic, and patient with her. They genuinely showed so much affection for her and all the other residents. The staff made all the difference in the last few years of her life, as her memory began to fade away.

She passed away recently in March 2024. During her last few bedridden days, the staff took excellent care of her and kept her comfortable while also ensuring that we (the family) were provided for.

I apologize that I can’t list all the staff names but I spoke several times during her stay, to Nisha, Sneha, Sri and Maneesh and they were all wonderful to us, as were ALL the staff in memory care and Amica. Thank you again to everyone (Lisa, Laura, Michelle, receptionists Valerian, and Tenisha) for helping us navigate through these last few challenging years.

My Father lost my Mom less than a year ago and he is in the memory unit. He has a group of really wonderful people that care for him. With 2 of my sisters, Disne & Linda living so close, there is always someone visiting. His nurses have said on quite a few occasions that they are so thrilled that he gets so many visitors, the staff atmosphere feels like a big family feeling.

Dad loves the place. He is a long way away, and I don't see him as much as I want to, but when I do, he always seems so happy.

Update July 2025: Dad passed away last night, I am so thankful for the many caregivers who treated Dad with the utmost respect, special shoutout to Jill. Thank you all so so much.

My in-laws needed to make a change as it became clear they were not thriving living on their own but they were reluctant to move into an assisted living home. They visited Laura and the rest of the folks at Amica Little Lake and they fell in love with the home, community, and staff! One visit to Amica Little Lake and they were ready to make the change! Such an incredible group of people, you could tell they truly cared about my in-laws!

Six months ago, we moved our father to Amica Little Lake from another senior community in Barrie. We had been experiencing many difficulties at this other facility, and Amica Little Lake offered a cleaner, friendlier, and healthier environment for our father. We are so glad that we made this move! The building itself is more attractive and inviting. The staff are over-the-top friendly and accommodating. The activity calendar is filled with fun events and outings, and there is something every day for our father to enjoy. The food is varied and excellent. And the health care is exemplary, with nursing staff available 24/7 and a house doctor who is a senior care expert. All staff are very approachable and any questions or concerns we have had have been dealt with efficiently and quickly.
Our dad is very happy here, and we are too. We wish we'd moved him into Amica Little Lake four years ago, when he first came to Barrie!

Our family was very thankful to the entire staff for caring for my Mom during her stay at Amica. The personal and caring connections we made will last in our memories. We appreciated the sentiments when my Mom passed recently. We knew she was loved and cared for.

This is a great place to live. The staff is wonderful and caring, the activities and trips keep life fun and my health is well cared for.

Wonderful staff - Tonight Meharjot Kaur (M) took such gentle care of my grandma (96) who is recovering from a recent fall. Meharjot went above and beyond to make sure my grandma had everything she needed and more. Thank you so much! It means a lot to know that my grandma is cared for so well

My Mother joined the Memory Care area approximately 10 months ago. She was in her 102nd year and needed more physical care than we were able to provide her at our home. Her transition was not as smooth as we would have liked, as she wanted to continue to stay with us, but the compassion and kindness shown to her, by the care workers in the memory care area, was exceptional and she gradually felt at home.
I want to especially thank Nisha Baby who was one of the care workers for the outstanding kindness she showed towards my Mother. Nisha has a rare talent and is able to connect to people even when they are at their most vulnerable and confused. (Also thanks to Austha Trivedi another care worker.)
This Amica offers every level of care up to and including palliative. My mother's last days were under palliative care. She stayed in her own room with round-the-clock support from both the Nurses and care staff. I cannot express how attentive, informative, and caring they all were. You never want to be in that position with a loved one but this level of comfort and familiarity for the family and my Mother removed all concerns about her surroundings. My family and I cannot thank them enough.

Thanks so much to all the staff at Amica Little Lake. Each person you meet greets you warmly at every visit. The concierges are always helpful and welcoming. (I have seen Valerian mostly.) There is an excellent wellness center, great food, and the art hanging on the walls makes it feel like a gallery. There is also a large range of activities and outings.

Michelle and Laura helped significantly with my Dad's transition from Independent Living to Memory Care. Lisa and her team members in MC are professional, engaging, upbeat, and kind. (I have happened to see Jill and Brianne the most.) Given the number of activities that are appropriately targeted to my Dad and the encouragement he gets to participate, he is very active and happy.

I am thankful that he is able to be in such a caring environment.

Our Mother loved her evening baths. As far back as we could remember it was the conclusion to her day.
Sadly, and not by her choice, this ritual would come to an end. Mom desperately missed her baths.
She was asked if she would like to move to a new home called Amica. It was a beautiful place with lovely people and provided the care that she required. Our Mother said, “that she would think about it.”
To help reduce her anxiety and truly with no belief that this could actually happen, Mom was told that Amica had a special bathtub. She could finally get her bath. She responded, “That would be glorious.” As it turned out, it would be her final request.
From the moment that Mellissa heard about this unique request, she transformed into a superhero and sprung into action. Despite the limitations, the uncertainty, and the potential risks, she was motivated to make this happen for our Mom. Then a few hours after our Mom’s arrival........... She did!
The inclusion of Lisa’s passion and leadership, combined with the commitment to care from Kelsey, Savanna, and Kinnari allowed our family to bear witness to an extraordinary act of kindness. We will be eternally grateful. The participation of Mom’s daughters created a personal moment that will never be forgotten. The wonderful ladies at Amica created a warm, tranquil environment and with the familiar sound of Sinatra in the background were able to grant our Beloved Mother’s final wish........ “A Glorious Bath”!
Not too long after, our Mom lay very serenely in her favourite nightgown, under her best blankets surrounded by her children. She was at peace. And then our Beloved Mother went to sleep.

A few years ago my grandparents were living in Toronto and did not have family nearby. Luckily we were able to find a place at Little Lake, and they were able to move in. Sadly my grandfather passed away shortly after they moved in, but the nursing team there were able to help my grandfather stay comfortable until he passed away. I just want to share that since then my grandmother has been very happy at Amica. Although she misses my grandfather, I know that the people take good care of her. She loves the food, but more importantly she has friends and isn’t lonely. We feel that “Gramica” is safe and getting the socialization she so desperately needs.

Amica staff are outstanding! My great-aunt felt so safe and happy during Covid. Her new friends have made a huge difference in her life!
