My parents have been living at Amica Dundas for 7 months now. Once my Dad lost his driver's licence they were completely dependent on family for all of their needs. Moving to Amica Dundas has given them back their independence and has given my sisters and me the peace of mind of knowing that all of their needs are being taken care of and that they have the support that they need today and will ultimately need moving forward.
The staff at Amica have been so supportive of them and to our whole family during their transition and any time we have a question or concern they are quick to respond and go above and beyond to help my parents feel comfortable and supported. They have encouraged them to participate in all of the amazing activities and special events that are available to them every day and show a genuine interest and concern in their well-being and make every effort to help make their life at Amica enjoyable and enriched. We have seen a dramatic improvement in their health both physically and mentally since they moved to Amica and are so happy that they are living the life they truly deserve.
We looked at every option available for them and the added bonus we found at Amica Dundas is the incredible location. They are able to walk across the street to Metro for their favourite cereal, walk to Rexall and have their medications managed and delivered to their door, or have the option of having them managed and delivered “in-house” when the time comes that they need that. They enjoy their short walk downtown to enjoy the restaurants and shops, can walk to the bank to manage their finances or walk across the street to the Farmer’s Market in the summer and fall. It truly is the real deal and you will not find a better retirement experience for your loved ones or yourself in the Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas area. We have already told our kids that Amica Dundas is where we want to live when we are in our senior years.
One of the bonuses of Amica Dundas is its unique location to grocery, pharmacy, banks and shops and restaurants in Downtown Dundas. It really gives them the independence that they didn’t have once my Dad lost his license. Their suite is beautiful and spacious and they enjoy their patio with an incredible view of the escarpment and farmers market in the summer and fall.
I think the most important thing to our family is the incredible staff who make my parents feel like family. From the friendly and supportive staff at the concierge…to the support staff in the dining areas who always refer to them by name and escort them to their favourite dining spots… to the recreational staff who invite and encourage them to attend the many recreational activities and special events… to the management who are always a text away to give us peace of mind when we have any worries or concerns about our lives ones…to the nurses and medical support staff who go above and beyond to look after their physical, mental and emotional needs…and ours… We thank you all.
My parents have never been very social people. Family has been their social circle and they were reluctant to branch out in the past. Since they have moved to Amica Dundas we have watched them grow socially and become more interactive with others. We are so happy to see them interacting with the staff and residents and are beginning to attend and participate in some of the social events, concerts, and activities available to them daily. They are making friends for the first time in their 60-plus years of marriage and we love to see them smiling, singing, and enjoying the life they truly deserve to be living!!
My parents have never been so engaged or entertained in their lives. From the morning exercise classes to the weekly concerts and special outings and activities…No excuse to be bored. So many activities that we, as family, are also invited to attend. It is an envious lifestyle they are living, for sure. We are so excited and happy for them when we get the monthly calendar and look ahead at the fun they have to look forward to!!
Before moving to Amica my parents always felt bad asking us to take them to the doctor or to get blood work or lab work done. They are now able to access a family doctor twice a week in-house and we can arrange for blood work to be done in their suite when needed. If they ever have any medical concerns they can call the nursing station or press the button on their lanyard if they have immediate concerns. It has been so comforting to them and to us to have that peace of mind. No more middle-of-the-night calls to 9-11 or long wait times to get medical attention. They know the nurses by name and love seeing their favourite nurse blow them kisses on the elevator when the door opens at the second floor!! The best!!
The menu looks amazing to us as family members. My folks love the option of being able to order dinner up to their room when they are mitt up to going to the dining room. Lots of healthy options and variety to choose from. We enjoy joining them for a soup, panini, and coffee in the bistro when we visit.
My parents did not leave their home willingly. They were no longer safe or capable of managing to live independently in their home without daily support from family. It took some time to adjust, for sure, but the staff at Amica Dundas were so supportive to them and to our family that we never questioned our decision. The close contact that was provided to us from day one gave us so much comfort and reassurance. The staff and management made and continue to make every effort to get to know my parents and to learn about their likes and needs and make them feel safe and comfortable in their new home.
I spent three months researching retirement residences. It didn’t take long for me to decide that Amica residences were a cut above the rest. Amica is philosophically aligned with my values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. That is reflected in everything they do, including the staff they hire and the programs they provide. Amica Residences are very pet friendly, and they consistently have the best reviews!! I chose Amica Dundas because it brought me closer to family. Dundas itself is a unique place. I’ve lived in 8 cities, in 4 different countries. I have fallen in love with only one: Dundas, Ontario!
Chuck Gouett shares why the atmosphere, flexibility, and personal service at Amica Dundas make moving there "the best decision I ever made."
