What made you choose Berwick on the Park?
I grew up here. My dad grew up in Kamloops, so we know Berwick on the Park. We know a lot of the retirement homes in Kamloops. So when my parents needed to go to a retirement home, it was probably our first choice. Luckily they had a room available when we needed it.

How was the process of moving into Berwick on the Park?
Moving to Berwick was so easy. He had a patio one close by, so it was easy to move furniture and everything in. It was very easy. It was not a big event.

It was probably 11 or 12 years ago, so it’s vague in our memory now.
How would you describe the atmosphere and sense of community at Berwick on the Park?
I would say it’s probably one of the best atmospheres that I’ve been in. Dad’s been at Berwick on the Park for quite a while, but recently he’s needed more help and everything, so I visit him quite often. The atmosphere is just great.

There are lots of things for people to do. You can tell that a lot of people enjoy being there.

My dad did a lot of the social things when he first moved in, but now he’s getting on in time, and so he does less activities. We go to the coffee shop, or he goes for his meals and that.
How has your own life changed since your parent moved in?
Our life hasn’t changed much at all. It’s basically the same. They had their own place. We visit them in town. We’re in town. Now he’s at Berwick on the Park, it just feels like he’s a little bit more taken care of, and if there are any issues or any concerns, they’re taken care of, or he has help. So that has probably alleviated a bit of worries from our side.

How has your parent’s life improved since moving in?
He enjoys it there. It’s comfortable. He knows his way around. He enjoys it.
He knows the staff; he knows quite a few of the people. Berwick on the Park is his home now. It’s his life, and he enjoys it.

What stands out about the staff at Berwick on the Park?
The staff and support is there. If there are any issues or any questions, it’s easy. I just contact them. They’re very supportive. If I have an issue or anything like that, they always have a way of solving it or coming up with a solution for what Dad needs. They’re very, very, very helpful and very friendly. Every time you go to Berwick on the Park, they’re always greeting you or always saying hi.

What should others know if they are considering Berwick on the Park?
Great location, great staff, great atmosphere. I’ve gone around to a couple of other places with my sister, and we always look back at Berwick on the Park, and I would say it’s the best we have. With the atmosphere, the staff, and everything they have, it is just great.

Have you encountered any challenges or areas for improvement at Berwick on the Park?
No. None. They seem to have everything organized at Berwick on the Park, and I haven’t had any challenges.
What would you do differently if you had to start this process all over again?
I would probably do nothing differently and just hope that Berwick had a space. Other than that, no, I wouldn’t do anything differently. It was easy, simple, and easy to do. I wouldn’t change anything.

What advice would you give to someone searching for the right retirement community?
Just make sure that, like my dad, they enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the people that are there. I think that’s the most important, to be able to look at the activities and look at what the atmosphere is. Is it inviting or is it more clinical?
Berwick on the Park is inviting, not clinical. So just make sure you look at something that functions and works well for your parents or whatever.
