Located in a residential neighborhood across the street from a park, 147 Elder St. provides a home like environment exclusively for dementia care. In our community, dementia is the rule not the exception. It’s just life. Working with elders experiencing dementia for over 20 years, we know that there is virtually no situation in which their condition can be called stable, simple or predictable. Our skilled nurses can distinguish between emerging medical problems and evolving behavioral changes ensuring all our elders get the care they need. Every member of our community is well-known, honored, respected and loved.
Family owned and operated, the Briton House has been dedicated to the highest standards of service for over 50 years. Here, residents find community, physical and intellectual nourishment, and comfort in knowing we provide an array of services including healthcare, prepared meals and housekeeping. Residents can choose care packages that meet their specific needs. Our property features a 15,000 sq. ft. indoor garden, outdoor courtyard, a concert hall, indoor swimming pool, gym, and dining lounge.

With over 20 years of experience in providing dementia care, Sagecare stands unique as one of the few purely dementia care retirement homes in the GTA. Everything from our physical layout and lighting to our holistic approach to care and therapeutic activities is tailored to those living with dementia.
Our residents spend their days on our main floor enjoying therapeutic recreation activities, exercise programs, music therapy, art therapy, and a wide range of other programming tailored to their abilities. Our experienced staff partner with family members to provide truly person-centered care and programming.
Our pride and enthusiasm is exceedingly real but in the final analysis it’s your approval that is important and we will always do our best to achieve that.
We cater to seniors and at every retirement living stage, so they never have to worry about having to move again. We offer quality services for Independent seniors, Independent Living Plus seniors who might need minimal support, Assisted Living for residents who require more care and attention and Assisted Living Memory Care, which is reserved for memory-impaired residents. It is a secure unit with an open door concept.

Prior to move in Sagecare works extensively with families to better understand the future resident. Families help to establish day-to-day routines, preferred foods, activities, and music, and known triggers. This information is used to structure the resident's daily routine and activities.
Upon admission Sagecare provides overnight a one to one personal support worker overnight for the first two nights to better understand the resident's sleep patterns and ensure they're safety.
We understand that visits can be difficult for families during the transition period. Our team facilities visits with the new resident to help both families and residents feel more at ease with the move.
As part of the Personal Care Program offered at The Briton House, health care services are provided based on the individual and medical needs of our residents; regular assessments are conducted and health care services can be modified to ensure every resident is comfortable. These features, together with our experienced and sensitive staff, will enhance life in the Briton House and enable us to uphold our tradition of warmly caring for you.

Because dementia is progressive and unpredictable, our care plans are constantly evolving, adapting daily routines, therapies, and approaches to meet each resident where they are. Our low staff-to-resident ratio allows us to respond quickly and personally, while maintaining consistency and familiarity. Families are closely involved throughout, so care remains aligned with the resident’s history, preferences, and evolving needs.

Sagecare is designed exclusively for individuals experiencing cognitive decline, where specialized care, structured routines, and therapeutic programming are part of daily life. We’re best suited for families seeking a highly focused, relationship-driven approach to memory care, rather than a general retirement setting. Someone who needs light assistance or who is fully independent will be better suited to one of the numerous excellent retirement homes in our contact network.

Sagecare recognizes that dementia has tremendous effects on the family of the resident and they require support as well. Sagecare has an onsite social worker who works with families, holds monthly support groups, and provides one-to-one therapy and counselling to our families.
Our core team of nurses, personal support workers, dietary staff, and housekeepers have been with Sagecare for over 10 years. It's this experienced team of staff that helps take the care element away from families and give them the opportunity to be a loved one.
We also have a robust family council who helps our new families with integrating into our community, and supports them through the transition.
Following a proud tradition of caring for people since 1976, we are very pleased to welcome you to our warm and friendly home. The Briton House provides nourishment for the whole person. We offer entertainment and cultural events, a year-round garden for your enjoyment, professionally guided exercise program for groups and individuals, nutritious meals, great and varied accommodation and a quite room/chapel for inspirational services and meditation.

We’ll continue to build on over 20 years of specialized dementia care, refining our person-centred approach as best practices evolve. That includes expanding tailored environments, like our newer memory care spaces for different stages of dementia, and continuing to invest in staff training and therapeutic programming. Our focus will remain the same: creating a home where residents are understood, families feel supported, and care adapts thoughtfully to each stage of the journey.
