In the heart of Hamilton there’s a place with heart. Staff and residents together make this an oasis of kindness and care. You see instances of this around the community as soon as you walk through. People are gathered around a table in the lounge, and other groups are found throughout the community, some sitting and chatting, others perhaps on their way out to do something together. It’s also strikingly diverse.
Wentworth Heights is the perfect fit for Hamilton area seniors who miss the old days when you knew your neighbours and everyone you met had a friendly "Hello." The village concept is truly unique and has to be experienced to be appreciated. Staff and residents love life in the village.
My mother’s experience with Caroline Place Retirement Residence was between 2015 and 2023. Her experience, and mine as the primary family care-giver, were very good, and I am happy that my mother was able to spend the last 8 years of her life in that community. When she arrived at Caroline Place, she was a spry 90-year-old still playing bridge and moving between events with her walker. Staff and residents were both very welcoming. As time progressed and her mobility declined, she remained very happy in her cozy apartment at Caroline Place, and to see her friends at meals and special events. Caroline Place increased the staff support for her seamlessly as needed so that Mom was able to stay in the place that had become her home until her passing in April 2023.
My parents went to Caroline Place together 91/2 years ago. It’s such a wonderful place. You feel welcome the minute you walk through the front doors. All the staff go above & beyond the residents' needs. This includes the management, front desk, kitchen & serving staff, cleaning staff & nursing team, activities coordinators. My Mom [lived there] for 6 1/2 yrs. We always felt at peace that she was well looked after. She had numerous friends and participated in many activities. She loved dancing at Happy Hour every Friday. We are truly blessed that she lived her final days there.
My Mother spent the last four years of her life here. The staff were excellent. Their response and precautions taken to prevent an outbreak of Covid in the building were impressive. I got regular e-mail updates that were appreciated. My family thanks the staff for all their support and care shown to my Mother.
After 66 years of living in the same house and other significant life changes, my Dad moved to Caroline Place. The staff were helpful, encouraging and friendly, helping him to adjust to this major life change. I found the staff pleasant, supportive and very importantly, accessible. Ready to answer our questions, clarify a procedure/protocol and address any concerns. As time moved forward Dad embraced the Caroline Place environment, enjoying several activities, Happy Hours and outings. As a family we often enjoyed the Sunday Brunch, and participated in the events. As his health started to fail further, the Wellness staff were ready, capable and willing to take over the administration of his meds, and assist him in daily living requirements. We will always be grateful for their support, warmth and professionalism. My father passed just before Covid came to Hamilton. Based on our nearly 3 years experience with Caroline Place, when another family member needed to be in a supportive living environment, we once again have turned to Caroline Place. I have been impressed with the proactive stance CP management has taken in their response to Covid. The safety, well-being and care of the residents has been forefront. Infection control protocols were swiftly put into place and upgraded as the Covid situation developed; the mental/physical health of the residents balanced with the need for stricter isolation and distancing; weekly communication updates sent to the family members and residents as the situation continues to evolve. Caroline Place is a positive, vibrant and respectful environment, with it's residents' well-being always a priority. Thank you to all of Caroline Place staff for all you do. We definitely recommend Caroline Place.
My father has been at Caroline Place about a year and a half. I can't say enough good things about his home. The staff are incredible, genuinely friendly and always helpful and professional. It's clean, the food is good and they have lots of activities. But, I just have to emphasize one point. I can sleep at night because they had a quick and thorough plan when COVID-19 started. They have continued to adapt and always in the best interest of their residents. They have communicated with families and residents often and thoroughly. I am extremely relieved my father chose Caroline Place. They deserve a reward for their professionalism and care. Not just 5 stars in a review. Thank you to all administration and staff from the bottom of my heart.
Best seniors residence I have seen ... something for everyone .... excellent food at the Ruby!
The overperform in their goals and objectives [for care and atmosphere]. They go above and beyond all of the time. Every couple of days my mother will relate an experience of kindness that didn't need to be done by a member of staff but it was... I talk to her every day and she's extraordinarily happy. What impresses me most is the people there.
We secured a spot for my brother in the LTC neighbourhood in May 2022. He is very happy and verbalized it just a few days ago. The leadership for the Rymal neighbourhood have been amazing not only helping to transition my brother into his new home but answering my questions as well. Thank you to everyone at WH for creating a welcoming home for my brother!
I have lived here for going on 3 years and I love it. All the staff are great. Meals are good. Rooms are spacious.
My mother in law is very happy here. The staff is very helpful and caring

Our Village is a proud part of a Canadian family tradition of community building that goes back 70 years. The first Schlegel family home became the foundation of what Schlegel Villages is today. Here at The Village of Wentworth Heights, we offer several lifestyle options to meet a variety of needs. Our continuum of care allows for residents to age with us in place as their needs change. The residents we serve come from a range of backgrounds that thread together the fabric of our community, and while we know resident-centeredness is a term that many lean on these days, we truly do focus on each individual’s wishes to guide our approach to service. Our Signature Programs help us focus on the individuality of each resident we serve. Our LIVING in My Today dementia care philosophy, for example, was developed by our team and our partners alongside people with lived experience. This provides our team the opportunity to learn exactly what it means to support a person who is experiencing the changing perceptions of dementia. We also celebrate the Wisdom of the Elder as another Signature Program, thanks to the inspiration of our founder Ron Schlegel. Ron once said: “The greatest untapped resource in Canada, if not the world, is the collective wisdom of our elders,” and we honour the individual and collective wisdom of those we serve in ways large and small.
